Dania Goes home

Dania Soon after she arrive to our Nutritional CEnter

Dania, had been here for 5 ½ years went she went home early this April. It was back during the pandemic, when transportation was still under lockdown, that Father reached out by text message to ask for help for his only child, a tiny 19-month-old girl without the strength to turn her head. Father’s pleas for help were heart-wrenching. He and Dania’s Mom had previously lost a child, and they wanted with all their beings to save their precious, languishing daughter. Unsure of what we would find or exactly how we could help, when we secured a vehicle, we set out toward their remote village in the foothills. Our team brought back a little girl, limp and pale with intelligent, sad eyes, unmoving, interacting only with a steady gaze.

Dania began gaining weight and some muscle tone, and color came into her cheeks. It has been a delight to watch Dania gain strength, start to smile and learn to walk with the aid of a child-sized walker. These last two and a half years since she became mobile, Dania has been a spark of joy, treating all with friendly warmth and welcoming other disabled and malnourished babies with smiles and great tenderness, even though she cannot talk.

Dania Happy to go Home with her Parents

In February, Dania’s earnest, industrious father came by to tell us that they were almost ready for Dania to come home, because he had found a job that would provide them with a house with floors that would meet Dania’s mobility needs. “I will return in April to take our child home,” he said proudly. And sure enough, on April 1 Mom and Dad came! This year for Mother’s Day, Dania’s mom and dad will have the joy and pleasure of celebrating as a family unit at home, reunited after many years apart. What a joy to work with you and this family to see them happy, healthy and together once again!
